Australia take full command over 2nd Test against NZ

ADELAIDE: Australia took complete command over the second Test against New Zealand as they gained a big lead of 265 runs in the first innings here on third day of the match.

After New Zealand were all out for 270 on second day, Australia in reply amassed a huge total of 535 runs.

At stumps, New Zealand were 35 for no loss reducing deficit to 230 runs. Openers Auron Redmond and Jamie How were batting on 15 and 13, respectively.

Resuming at 241-3, Australia lost two quick wickets for just six runs but Michael Clarke and wicketkeeper Brad Haddin got together to take their team from 247-5 to a strong position by adding 181 runs for the sixth wicket.

Clarke made 110 off 239 balls with 11 fours and Haddin, more aggressive of the two, smashed 169 off 222 balls with 24 boundaries and two sixes.

For New Zealand, Iain O’Brien got three wickets while Chris Martin, captain Daniel Vettori and Redmond took two wickets each. They all conceded more than 100 runs while Tim Southee failed to get any wicket after giving 100 runs.
