Nation united on national security: PM
ISLAMABAD: National Security Conference (NSC) headed by Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani continues here.
The conference aims at evolving a joint strategy in the wake of Mumbai terror attacks and is being attended by leaders of more than 58 political parties.
In his inaugural address in NSC, Prime Minister Gilani said that there was complete unanimity of views among all political parties and the message has been conveyed to the world that Pakistani nation was united to safeguard the national interests and territorial integrity of the motherland.
The prime minister said the NSC has been convened with a view to creating “political consensus” on the situation in the wake of Mumbai mayhem and the Indian allegations against Pakistan.
Leaders of all major political parties, including chief of PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif, PML-Q president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Imran Khan, Jamat-e-Islami Pakistan Amir Qazi Hussain Ahmed, Awami National Party chief Asfandyar Wali Khan, Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Dr Farooq Sattar, Jamiat-e-Ulemae Islam-F leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman and Mehmud Khan Achakzai are attending the conference.
Sources further said Foreign Minister Makhdoom Shah Mehmud Qureshi and Adviser on National Security, Mehmud Ali Durrani also briefed the leaders on the situation in the wake of attacks in Mumbai.
